HOW TO BECOME A GOOD LEADER


1. QUALITY AND CHARACTERISTIC DESIRABLE IN LEADERS

Personal Traits:
· Accountable
· Adaptable
· Flexible
· Decision maker
· Problem solver
Leading Skill: coaching, visionary, listen, continuous learning
Team Management: build a good work relationship and a successful team

2. JUST BECOME A MANAGER, YOU CAN BECOME A LEADER

There are some people are manager but never can become a leader because they do not have quality and characteristics in a leader.
Manager is necessary, Leader is essential. As a result, if you want to become a leader, firstly you must become a manager.

MANAGER + VISION + LEADING SKILL = LEADER

3. THE NECESSARY & SUFFICIENT CONDITION OF BECOMING A LEADER

· Necessary conditions: quality approach: there are some inborn qualities that predestine a person to be a leader (courage, intelligence, determination, patience, initiative…)
· Sufficient conditions:
1) Situation approach: Situation makes leader and leader create new situation. However, a person becomes leader in a particular situation but does not become leader in other situation. Leadership would pass from member to member accordingly to the situation
2) Function approach

INBORN QUALITY + CONTINUOUS LEARNING + SITUATION = LEADER

MANAGER

· Establishing direction
· Developing vision of future
· Setup strategies for producing the changes needed to achieve this vision


· Aligning people
· Communicating the direction by words and deeds
· Creating teams and coalitions that understand the vision and accept their validity
· Motivating & inspiring energizing people to overcome major political, bureaucratic, resource barriers to change
· Produce changes

LEADER

· Planning and budgeting
· Establishing details steps and time-table
· Allocating necessary resources to make that happen

· Organizing, staffing, establishing structure for accomplishing plan requirements
· Delegating responsibilities and authority
· Providing policies and procedures to help and guide people
· Creating methods/system to monitor implementation

· Control and problem solving
· Monitoring results vs plan
· Identifying deviations
· Produce a degree of predictability & order
